Migration and Development Academy

Migration and Development Academy (M&D Academy) is a program of the Committee on Migration and Development (CMD) of the Regional Development Council (RDC) of Region IV-A. Region IV-A is composed of the CALABARZON provinces of Cavite, Laguna Batangas, Rizal and Quezon.  The CMD is a multi-stakeholder partnership of regional and local government units, NGOs, organizations of overseas Filipinos and their families and those from the private sector in the region.

Objectives:

1. Provide an avenue for sharing the best practices of regional and local governments, NGOs and private sector in implementing migration and development programs; and
2. Build the capacities of migration stakeholders in the Philippines and other destination countries in conducting migration and development initiatives that seek to minimize the social costs and maximize the gains of migration.

Main Activities:

1. Trainings for migration stakeholders and study missions to established programs and services for migrants and their families
2. Research and publication of migration stakeholders in the region especially those that deal with mainstreaming migration in local development and governance.

Atikha Overseas Workers and Communities Initiatives Inc. (Atikha) coordinates the activities of the M&D Academy.  Atikha is a non-government organization that provides economic and social services for Overseas Filipinos and their families. It spearheads the training of migration stakeholders. It is one of the first NGOs that operated a one-stop resource center for overseas Filipinos and their families. It implements programs in partnership with local government units in different provinces in the Philippines and organizations and institutions in various migrant destination countries.
